Sophie Bordeu is an incredibly talented and broadly skilled financial coordinator for the Electrical Joint Training Committee (EJTC). She’s passionate about learning and gaining as much knowledge and experience as possible.
In 2012 Sophie moved from a little town in the south of France to Canada, British Columbia. “Before moving to Canada, I was doing business management in France. I was working at a company as a production manager, but when I came to Canada, I had to start back from zero.” Sophie did not speak English when she arrived in Canada, although she was eager to learn. “When I moved here, I started working at Starbucks. I worked there for two and a half years, which helped me learn the language and understand the Canadian culture.”
After gaining more knowledge about the culture and language, Sophie made a career shift into the legal field. “After a few years working at Starbucks, I started working in a law firm working entry-level in data entry. Shortly after, I worked my way up to being a paralegal for about 5-6 years.”
After learning everything she wanted to, Sophie decided to leave the legal field. A new learning opportunity opened at the Electrical Joint Training Committee (EJTC), and she had to give it a go. “I’m trying to absorb and experience as much as possible. A position at the EJTC opened, and I thought it was the perfect fit and exactly what I was looking for.”
Sophie is currently a significant asset to the EJTC team. She is the financial coordinator and excels in many duties like leading accounting, account management, and bookkeeping. Sophie also plays a part in many other important tasks and roles that help the organization run smoothly and according to plan.
Although she has no direct experience working in the trades, Sophie sees the benefits of entering the workforce. “I feel like people entering the trades are smart to do so. They will come out of their apprenticeship with zero to little student debt, plenty of opportunities to make great money, and there will always be a job for them!”
Sophie is intelligent, highly versatile, competent, and an incredible addition to the EJTC team. She continues to expand her knowledge and skills as she constantly seeks learning opportunities and new experiences, “the challenge is what keeps me going.”
