“We are a well-oiled machine.”
Teamwork makes the dream work! For sixteen years, Shannon Zahara has been working with the Electrical Joint Training Committee (EJTC) and could not be happier with the camaraderie and operations of the team. “I started at reception, ground zero. When I started, I was blown away by how smoothly the office was run. We had another training organization ask us, “How do you manage 500+ apprentices so well?” It’s a well-oiled machine! Everyone has their job to do, and the team gets along so well!”
“I really try to encourage the apprentices.”
With hard work and drive, Shannon has worked her way from office secretary and is now flourishing as the Apprentice Administrator at the EJTC. “As the Apprentice Administrator, I manage the apprentices. I tell their employers when they should get their raise, put their hours into the system, tell them when they should go to school, and sign them off as a journeyperson when they are ready. I take away the stress of what they need to do to get through the apprenticeship.”
Not only is Shannon managing apprenticeships, but she is also there for the apprentices whether they need guidance, support, or encouragement. “I am a people person. I like talking to apprentices when they have issues. I’d rather talk to them than send a letter or an e-mail. I really try to encourage the apprentices, especially if they are struggling with the process. Sometimes they need a reminder of all the good that comes out of their hard work.”
“It’s a lot of work, but it’s also gratifying.”
“My proudest moments are when I get to help an apprentice complete their apprenticeship.” Shannon takes pride in her work and does her best to ensure an excellent experience for the apprentices in school and a smooth transition for those entering the workforce. Being the people-person she is, Shannon has developed strong relationships with the apprentices she works with and will always be there to support, guide, and encourage the apprentices of the EJTC into great success.
