Phil Davis – A Fiery Passion for The Electrical Trade

Philip Davis’s knowledge, passion, and love for the electrical trade come from decades of experience. As a young man, Phil successfully ran his own painting company and completed a Bachelor of Arts degree. At age 31, looking for a change, Phil decided to become an electrical apprentice. Within a few years, he completed his apprenticeship, acquired his Red Seal ticket, and he would soon discover a fire that would light within him in the years to come in the electrical sector.

From 1993-1999 Phil worked hard as an electrician and loved everything about it. Although, as a natural-born leader, he was always looking to expand his roles. “As I have progressed in my career over the years, the trades have offered a great opportunity to combine academic interests and build upon entrepreneurial aspirations. From owning my own company to working for the BC provincial government as an apprentice coordinator, I have been able to build upon my experience and progressively focus on emerging areas of interest. For the last 20 years, I have had the opportunity to focus on the fascinating and growing area of workforce development for the electrical energy sector. The apprenticeship system has been a great pathway for myself, friends and family. Building a solid career without amassing huge amounts of student loans has afforded greater flexibility in exploring employment related to the energy sector and building new pathways.”

Phil is now the Managing Director of the Electrical Joint Training Committee (EJTC). The EJTC is a collaborative initiative of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 213 and the Electrical Contractors Association of BC (ECA of BC) with a vision to offer the finest trades training possible to support national standards and ensure a strong electrical industry in BC. Phil shares this vision and is proud to be apart of a progressive, inclusive, and dynamic team.

As part of a progressive team, Phil is thrilled to take part in supporting and encouraging more indigenous communities, women, and underrepresented groups to join the trades. “To be able to make great careers more accessible to these communities, and increase participation in our apprenticeship, has been greatly rewarding.”

Over the years, Phil’s love and support for the wonderful electrical careers have only grown. “What is not to like? Growing segment, ever-evolving technology, and the shift to the ‘electrification of everything’ provides opportunities for ALL to engage in one of the most relevant, clean energy trades out there.” And the fire continues to burn…
