Building a Renewable Future: EJTC Leads the Way in Sustainable Electrical Training

The future is here, and it’s electric. At a time when Canadians are shifting away from fossil fuels and toward sustainable, low-carbon alternatives, the Electrical Joint Training Committee (EJTC) is leading the way in building a renewable future through innovation, inclusion, and action.

The EJTC isn’t just preparing for the future, they’re building it every single day. From training tomorrow’s renewable energy leaders to creating inclusive spaces that empower all workers, the EJTC is a model for what forward-thinking trades training looks like in 2025 and beyond.

A Training Ground That Reflects the Future

Training at the EJTC goes beyond the classroom and shop floor. The newly completed George Ingham Plaza is a vibrant outdoor space built for connection, collaboration, and community. Named in honour of George Ingham’s decades of dedication to electrical training and development, the plaza has quickly become a favourite gathering spot for apprentices, instructors, and staff.

As part of the EJTC’s ongoing commitment to sustainability, solar panels are being installed at the George Ingham Plaza to expand the organization’s renewable energy capabilities. This addition not only reduces the environmental footprint of the facility, but it also provides new hands-on learning opportunities in clean energy systems, further aligning the space with the future of the electrical industry.

The plaza is more than just a place to relax. it’s a physical reflection of the EJTC’s values: innovation, inclusivity, and long-term thinking.

Championing Diversity in the Trades

The EJTC continues to push for a more inclusive electrical industry. Their outreach, mentorship, and recruitment efforts are focused on bringing everyone into the fold, from women and Indigenous apprentices to newcomers and underrepresented groups.

By offering real opportunities and meaningful support, the EJTC is showing what an equitable, future-ready trades program looks like in action. Their efforts go beyond training; they’re changing the face of the industry.

Following the Momentum Toward a Renewable Future

The work happening at the EJTC isn’t just impressive, it’s essential. As Canada embraces a more sustainable and just economy, the trades will play a critical role in making it happen. The EJTC is proving that with the right training, support, and vision, the future of work can be bright, green, and inclusive.
